I always think about how a lot of big open source software projects are surprisingly hostile and unwelcoming to newcomers and how everything in the ecosystem seems made to discourage people from participating. And if they somehow still do, it will likely go nowhere anyway. So when we wonder why so many things only have "just a guy" taking care of them, actually yeah that's part of the issue. How many people want to help but don't know how or are scared of looking stupid on one of those dumb ...
