The no-notice demise of the Messenger is the latest reminder that if you write something for someone else's website, the only way to be sure it's preserved is to save a copy yourself. I have experience with this. My former employer deleted years worth of my blog to save a little money on server costs. With the help of a smart friend and the Wayback Machine, some of it was recovered, but a lot is gone forever. (It's at bayosphere.com if you're interested...and ignore the BS no-https warning.)
