like, and this is during or after white folks refused to pay Black people in real money instead of scrips that could only be spent in plantation owners' stores. This is while they were still trapping us in fake debt that was difficult to dispute because of illiteracy and the discrimination of the justice system! So to still have been able to save *any* money was a massive achievement! And it was just stolen from us with no recourse! And that fact is hidden!
